People Power Demonstrates Green Button at Datapalooza in Washington, DC

Certified Green Button Program Underway From People Power and London Hydro

PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwired - May 28, 2014) - Responding to a U.S. Government commitment to help consumers reduce their energy costs and the Canadian Ministry of Energy's Long Term Energy Plan, People Power announced today an energy industry partnership aimed at delivering Green Button-certified solutions to consumers in new and compelling ways. A demonstration of the mobile solution will be available at today's 2014 Energy Datapalooza event, by invitation from the White House, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the General Services Administration. The event highlights private-sector innovators harnessing the power of data to build the clean energy economy.

In partnership with London Hydro, a distribution company in Ontario, Canada, People Power is working to deliver the industry's first Green Button-certified, open-source solution for Ontario Province energy consumers.

"People Power helped develop the Green Button open-source code, and that's a great start," said Gene Wang, CEO of People Power. "Now what's most important is enhancing the data in a mobile app that combines home safety, automation and energy management into an engaging experience that people love to use. Our partnership with London Hydro will enable us to deliver a Green Button program that brings exciting new services for Canadian energy consumers."

The partnership of People Power and London Hydro is working to build scalable and engaging Green Button solutions that provide consumers visibility into their energy use in a secure, easy-to-understand way from a smartphone or tablet.

"London Hydro is proud to have been selected as a pilot site to bring to market the Green Button program to help inspire our community services and technology readiness for Ontario's students and entrepreneurs," said Vinay Sharma, CEO of London Hydro. "With our citizens always in mind, we are proud to bring Silicon Valley innovation to our Google cloud-enabled services that will bring new and compelling opportunities for all."

In addition to the Green Button energy pilot program for London, Ontario, People Power is currently leading consumer energy pilots in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and Hawaii. The company is working with the Energy Excelerator -- a clean energy accelerator program based in Honolulu, and Hawaii Energy -- an energy conservation program, to bring energy efficiency to 1,000 residences on the islands and expanding from there.

"By leveraging freely available government data and tools, entrepreneurs and innovators are helping to build the clean energy economy," said Todd Park, U.S. Chief Technology Officer and Assistant to the President. "Innovations like those featured today at the Energy Datapalooza can help Americans conserve energy, save money, and advance a safer and cleaner future."
