Glympse Now Available on Kindle Fire; Unveils New WP8 App

Location Sharing Now Available on More Devices, Platforms

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwired - Jun 17, 2014) - Glympse, the pioneer in real-time location sharing technology, today announced Glympse for Kindle Fire, as well as a new feature-rich version of the app, developed specifically for Windows Phone 8 (WP8). The new Glympse for WP8 incorporates features not previously available on the Windows Phone, like the ability to share with others via international phone numbers and the ability to update a user's location while the app is in the background.

"We have received thousands of emails and tweets from avid Glympse users who want to use all the great features of Glympse on their Windows Phone or their Kindle Fire tablet," said Darren Austin, vice president of product, Glympse. "Today's announcement is a result of popular demand, and we are excited to enhance the experience for our loyal fans."

The new Kindle Fire app signals Glympse's entry into the Amazon device ecosystem. It offers users a dynamic, temporary way share their location with others. User simply select the recipient -- either phone number, email or social network -- input how long they want their location to be available, and hit send. Recipients can view the sender's movements in real-time on a mobile or web browser.

The upgraded WP8 app, which will be live in the Windows Store later this week, takes advantage of the latest OS capabilities to offer several new features beyond the tools available in the original app, including:

  • International phone number support. Glympse now leverages the default messaging app on the device to allow users to share their location with any phone number supported by their carrier.
  • Background operation. Glympse will now be able to run in the background. This enables users to share their location continually, for the amount of time set, while using other applications and without having to update settings to allow permission for Glympse to run while the screen is off.
  • Easier view-in-app capability. Viewers can now easily launch and view a Glympse in the app from a link received in a text message or email. Previously, recipients were forced to watch a sender's location solely from the web browser.

The company plans to quickly introduce updates that will further enhance both the Windows Phone and Kindle Fire experiences with the rich feature set users have come to expect from all Glympse apps.
