Government of Canada Announces Appointment to the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board

Alain Lacoursiere appointed as part-time member

GATINEAU, QUÉBEC--(Marketwired - June 17, 2014) - Department of Canadian Heritage

The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced the appointment of Alain Lacoursière as a part-time member of the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board, for a term of three years, effective June 13, 2014.

Quick Facts

  • Mr. Lacoursière is a consultant in fine art valuation. A former police officer, he spent over twenty years as Detective-Sergeant in charge of art-related investigations with the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal and the Sûreté du Québec.
  • In addition to working with various entities to authenticate and protect works of art, Mr. Lacoursière has been Chairman of the Serge Lemoyne Foundation and an artistic commentator on Télé-Québec and Radio-Canada, as well as a guest speaker on art-related crimes, investing in art, and how to protect oneself as an artist.
  • Mr. Lacoursière holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from the Université de Montréal. He also completed international training in cultural property protection and legislation.
  • The Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board is an independent administrative tribunal that reports to the Minister of Canadian Heritage. Under the Cultural Property Export and Import Act, it is responsible for certifying cultural property for income tax purposes; reviewing export permit applications that have been refused; and determining fair cash offers to purchase cultural property for refused export permits.
