Government of Canada supports the Festival international des rythmes du monde


SAGUENAY, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - June 18, 2014) - Department of Canadian Heritage and Canada Economic Development

The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, and the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced funding for the 12th Festival international des rythmes du monde, which is taking place from July 24 to August 3, 2014.

This $21,600 in funding, granted by the Department of Canadian Heritage under the Local Festivals component of the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program, will be used to offer the public a range of shows that incorporate sounds from all around the world.

The funding from Canada Economic Development has been provided as a $29,100 non-repayable financial contribution through the Quebec Economic Development Program. This assistance will be used to implement a marketing strategy to help draw more tourists from markets outside Quebec to the festival.

- Close to 950 artists and artisans from around 20 countries will take part in the 12th Festival international des rythmes du monde.

- About 60 free shows will be presented on two outdoor stages in the heart of downtown Chicoutimi.

- The festival is attended by more than 230,000 people each year.
