Tubby's Customers Give Thumbs Up to Gluten-Free Options

ROSEVILLE, MI--(Marketwired - Jun 23, 2014) - Dining out can often be problematic for people who need to follow a gluten-free diet. In 2013, Tubby's made the decision to introduce gluten-free buns for customers who are allergic to or have a low tolerance for gluten.

"When my husband and I go out to eat, a salad is sometimes my only option," said Robyn Mazza, age 33, who has followed a gluten-free diet for more than five years. "If gluten-free options are available, they typically aren't as tasty."

Mazza was delighted to share she was pleasantly surprised when she and her husband recently stopped by the Tubby's Sub Shop located near their home in Dearborn.

"Instead of just ordering a salad, I was able to get a grilled chicken and veggie sub on a gluten-free bun," said Mazza. "I didn't have to compromise on flavor at all. It was really delicious."

Mazza's experience isn't alone. Tubby's Sub Shops has received many positive reviews from other customers who expressed gratitude for the restaurant's gluten-free options.

Shelly Semanco, a resident of Washington Township, has a teenage son with celiac disease, and his health depends on maintaining a strict gluten-free diet.

"Our 12 year old daughter doesn't have the same diet restrictions, and she loves Tubby's Famous subs," said Semanco. "With Tubby's gluten-free options, we can all eat at the same place."

The first time Semanco ordered the gluten-free sub for her son at the Tubby's in Shelby Township, she personally watched them prepare the sub. She said, "I was so impressed with the steps they took to avoid cross contamination that I felt confident about allowing him to eat there."

"We understand that people struggle to find different and tasty gluten-free options. We wanted to provide them with an easy solution," said Sue Marchewka, Tubby's director of operations. "We trained all of our franchise locations on how to properly prepare and serve gluten-free items to avoid cross contamination. We want to keep these customers safe and happy."

Washington Township resident Judy Secord, 40, is another Tubby's fan who has celiac disease.

"The first time I visited the Tubby's in Shelby Township, I was pleased when they asked me if gluten free was an allergy or preference," said Secord. "It's important to know the difference, and I watched the care they took in preparing my order."

Secord, who likes Tubby's Steak N' Cheese sub, has been back several times since and has referred friends and her mom who have celiac disease.

Semanco added that more restaurants are becoming attuned to gluten-free requests, and her family is especially glad that the Tubby's is "close by, quick and easy, and the subs are very tasty -- for the entire family."
