Wood Partners Recognized as Home Innovation NGBS Green Partner of Excellence

Company Lauded for Dedication to and Success in Advancing Green Building

ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwired - Jul 11, 2014) - Wood Partners, a national leader in multifamily residential community development, has been named a Home Innovation NGBS Green Partner of Excellence Rising Star for 2014. Being one of only a handful of Home Innovation's green certification participants to be recognized validates Wood Partners' commitment to providing its customers with increased value, comfort, durability and efficiency through its NGBS (National Green Building Standard) Green Certified apartments.

"Wood Partners believes it's important to design and build sustainable projects -- for our company, our residents and our investors," said William J. Greene III, LEED AP, senior design manager for Wood Partners' Central Region and chair of Wood Partners' Green Team. "Our residents experience substantial energy and water savings, and investors see it as an added value to our properties."

Wood Partners, which adopted NGBS as its baseline green building standard earlier this year, was chosen as one of six Rising Stars, companies that embraced both the NGBS and the certification process quickly and have had very promising starts in the program over the past year. Home Innovation applauded Wood Residential Service's dedication to and success in advancing green building and overall leadership and commitment to high-performance homes. The award recognizes significant innovation, leadership and/or excellence in various aspects of the NGBS Green Certification program, which requires builders and developers to meet rigorous criteria in six categories: lot and site development, resource efficiency, energy efficiency, water efficiency, indoor environmental quality and homeowner education.

Since January 2009, when the NGBS became the first residential green-building rating system to be approved by the American National Standard Institute, Home Innovation Research Labs has certified more than 8,000 single-family homes, more than 1,000 multifamily buildings representing close to 27,000 apartments, and 22 residential land developments representing more than 1,500 lots. "Going green was a logical path for building professionals to follow when the market was in decline and everyone was looking for something to set themselves apart and make the sale," said Home Innovation Research Labs president and CEO Michael Luzier. "But now that the market is coming back, dedicated partners like Wood Partners prove that participating in our rigorous third-party certification program isn't just a gimmick or a fad -- it's a strategic business decision that is paying dividends and changing the marketplace."

Through its Getting Green Right initiative, Wood Partners strives to design and construct every new project to the NGBS while also meeting local green building standards. In addition, many Wood Partner communities incorporate waste recycling, transit orientation and other techniques designed to reduce environmental impact.
