Ahmed Guilty of Terrorism Offences

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - July 11, 2014) - A jury has found Misbahuddin Ahmed, 30, guilty today in Ontario Superior Court of two terrorism offences, namely participating in the activities of a terrorist group contrary to s. 83.18, and conspiring to facilitate a terrorist activity, contrary to section 83.19 of the Criminal Code. The maximum penalties for these offences are 10 and 14 years imprisonment respectively.

He was found not guilty of making or having in his possession an explosive substance with intent to endanger life or cause serious damage to property, for the benefit of a terrorist group, contrary to section 83.2 of the Criminal Code.

Misbahuddin Ahmed was remanded into custody immediately following the guilty verdicts. He had been on bail since September 28, 2010, after his arrest the previous month. Sentencing will occur at a later date.

A publication ban remains in effect in this matter.
