Government of Canada Contributes to Canadian Aerospace Industry Outreach at Farnborough International Airshow

MONTRÉAL, QUÉBEC--(Marketwired - July 14, 2014) - Canada Economic Development for the Regions of Quebec

The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, will attend the Farnborough International Airshow taking place July 13 to 17, 2014.

Minister Lebel will meet with prime aerospace contractors to promote the skills and know-how of Quebec and Canadian businesses in the industry. He will also use the occasion to discuss the Government of Canada's Defence Procurement Strategy (DPS) and encourage networking and collaboration among the enterprises.

Quick facts

  • The Canadian aerospace industry provides over 129,000 direct and indirect jobs through more than 700 companies. In 2012, these enterprises generated $22.8 billion in direct revenues.
  • The Farnborough International Airshow is one of the world's largest commercial events in the aerospace sector, drawing over 1,450 exhibitors from 40 countries, more than 107,000 visitors and a transaction volume of some $72 billion ($US).
  • The Government of Canada launched its DPS in February in the aim of leveraging its purchases of defence equipment to create jobs, stimulate economic growth and further Canada's long-term prosperity.
