Former salesforce.com Exec Joins Elasticsearch as Product Downloads Reach 10 Million

Aaron Katz, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Field Operations, to Lead Global Sales Expansion and Increase Worldwide Adoption of Elasticsearch Products

LOS ALTOS, CA and AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS--(Marketwired - Jul 17, 2014) - Elasticsearch, Inc., provider of an end-to-end real-time search and analytics stack, today announced that Aaron Katz has joined the company as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Field Operations. Katz is the former SVP of Enterprise Sales at salesforce.com and will oversee all sales and partnership activities at the company, from field and direct sales, to technology and channel partnerships.

Thousands of businesses worldwide use the ELK stack -- comprised of Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana -- to search and analyze any type of data in real time. With the ELK stack, the possibilities of what companies can do with their data are endless. Some uses include:

  • End-user search: Companies like GitHub and Yelp have implemented Elasticsearch for the public-facing search function within their products
  • Log analysis: Netflix and CERN (home of the Large Hadron Collider) utilize the ELK stack to analyze their log files for better operational visibility
  • Analytics: Elasticsearch empowers The Guardian to track how 5 million readers are interacting with the news it publishes in real time

Katz comes to Elasticsearch during a period of accelerated growth and pivotal development. The company is hot on the heels of a $70 million Series C investment in June led by NEA, and its products continue to see 500,000 downloads a month. Its customer base has also doubled in the first six months of 2014 alone, with additions like The Associated Press, CAA, CrowdStrike, Facebook, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Intuit, Lookout, Mayo Clinic, Scottrade, TomTom, and YP. Katz's 12 years of global sales experience at salesforce.com will only help catapult the company even further.

"Elasticsearch has a simple and clear mission to help businesses easily and quickly obtain insights from their data. This clarity of vision has led the company down an impressive growth path, with an open source technology stack that has continuously and powerfully matured over the course of four years," said Aaron Katz, SVP, Worldwide Field Operations at Elasticsearch. "I look forward to helping Elasticsearch drive more global adoption of both our products and our support packages as we continue to collaborate with our customers to help them make the most of their data."

"One of our key objectives after raising $70 million in June includes expanding our sales team worldwide to meet the accelerating demand from companies using the ELK stack," said Steven Schuurman, Elasticsearch co-founder and CEO. "Aaron is a great addition to our phenomenal executive team, which includes leaders from prominent enterprise and open source software companies like Box, Citrix, IBM, Splunk, Sun Microsystems, and VMware. His specific skills and background make him an ideal fit to help us achieve our goals."

Katz spent the last 12 years at salesforce.com in a variety of sales leadership roles. During his tenure, Katz helped scale the company from $20M to more than $4B in annual revenue, taking it from a one-product startup to a global leader in cloud computing. He built and led sales teams across nearly every region, segment and industry, including in-country executive leadership roles in Asia Pacific and EMEA.
