Last Day for San Jose Medical Marijuana Referendum; Protest at City Hall Today

Free Pot Cards & Free Pot for San Jose Residents Still Available

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwired - Jul 17, 2014) - Today is the last day to gather signatures for the San Jose Medical Marijuana referendum. If the Referendum does not qualify, San Jose's ban on concentrates, branded edibles and outdoor growing begins tomorrow, July 18th. The Silicon Valley Cannabis Coalition is asking all San Jose residents who support reasonable regulations on medical marijuana in San Jose to come down to City Hall today and sign the referendum.

"We still have thousands of vouchers for both free medical cannabis evaluations & free grams of cannabis to give away to San Jose residents," said Dave Hodges founder of the All American Cannabis Club. "Unfortunately, unless we can get 10,000 valid San Jose voters to sign the petition today, I'm not sure the referendum will qualify."

At a meeting yesterday held by city staff it was announced shutdown letters would not go out for at least 90 days. It was also stated the 27 collectives who have already received a letter to shut down by the city, must shut down their operations before applying for a city permit. This effectively closes one third of the collectives operating in San Jose.

In just over 3 months, the city's regulations will put hundreds of employees out of work and endanger neighborhoods by pushing marijuana sales back to the streets. This "black market" for marijuana will not ask for ID or medical recommendations, and will make it easier for children to access marijuana.

San Jose's new regulations require all medical marijuana concentrates, edibles and topicals be produced on-site, by the collective; something that's virtually impossible for the dozens of businesses currently operating in the city. Medical marijuana vendors statewide will not be allowed to provide any products to collectives in San Jose. Outdoor growing is banned as are medical marijuana patients ages 18 to 20 from working at, or even getting medication from, collectives.
