VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - July 22, 2014) - Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat

Today, an expert panel roundtable and public workshop was held in Vancouver as part of consultations on Canada's second Action Plan on Open Government. The consultations were launched in May to hear directly from Canadians about their ideas for increased openness and transparency in the federal government.

Parliamentary Secretary Dan Albas attended the session, along with representatives from the municipal government, business, academia, Open Government enthusiasts, and interested citizens, which took place at Vancouver City Hall. On-going consultations, both on-line and in-person, are designed to produce an Action Plan that will provide citizens with better data and information, and more opportunities to learn about and participate in government. Consultations will also be held in Toronto, Halifax, and Saint John in the coming weeks.

Canada's second Action Plan on Open Government will build on the successes of the first Action Plan, such as the Open Government Licence, the Open Government Portal ( with almost 200,000 datasets, and events like the CODE appathon, which encourage innovation and economic activity that can benefit Canadians.
