SACRAMENTO, CA--(Marketwired - Aug 14, 2014) - The Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) released the following statement by Executive Director Timothy Quinn on Gov. Jerry Brown's signing of the 2014 California Water Bond:

"ACWA would like to commend Gov. Jerry Brown for the leadership he displayed in moving our state to this truly historic moment. The $7.5 billion water bond approved by the Legislature and signed by Governor Brown Wednesday will go a long way toward securing our statewide water future and helping California survive the inevitable droughts of the future. This bond is five years in the making and we would not have the bond today without the leadership shown by our Governor and legislative leaders on both sides of the aisle. Governor Brown took ownership of this bond -- which will appear before voters as Proposition 1 in November -- and brought disparate groups together to craft a fiscally prudent, targeted measure. Democratic and Republican leaders in both houses worked diligently to provide an overwhelming vote of support for California's water future. The elements contained in the resulting bond -- substantial funding for new storage, local resource development, groundwater sustainability, watershed enhancement, conservation and safe drinking water -- are critical to implementing the comprehensive California Water Action Plan that Brown has laid out for the state's future. This was an historic team effort for a better California."

ACWA is statewide association of public agencies whose 430 members are responsible for about 90% of the water delivered in California. For more information, visit
