BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Recognized by CIO Magazine as a CIO 100 Award Winner

Under the Guidance of VP Sherri Zink, Organization Is Noted for Use of BI to Improve Healthcare Coverage

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Aug 21, 2014) - Information Builders, a leader in business intelligence (BI) and analytics, information integrity and integration solutions, today announced that its customer, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee (BlueCross), was a recipient of IDG's CIO Magazine 2014 CIO 100 Award. The 27th annual award program recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology.

BlueCross is Tennessee's oldest and largest not-for-profit managed care provider, serving approximately 3 million people across the state. In response to updated provisions of the U.S. Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, BlueCross implemented a new reporting and analytics platform. The initiative, spearheaded by Sherri Zink, vice president of Medical Informatics at BlueCross, was designed to provide actionable clinical and administrative information to key stakeholders. A central element of the implementation included mobile BI applications and dashboards powered by Information Builders' WebFOCUS platform. Deployed across the marketing and employer groups, the goal of the technology investment was to improve customer satisfaction and relationship management. The marketing group's application, Consumer Dashboard, facilitates campaign improvements for its Medicare Advantage plan. BlueInsights(SM), the mobile app deployed in the employer group, helps users to better understand and manage corporate expenditures.

"BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is honored to be recognized with a 2014 CIO 100 Award," said Zink. "Our organization is dedicated to delivering the best coverage and services to our clients and is always on the lookout for tools that assist us in that effort. The powerful BI insights and mobile flexibility that Information Builders' WebFOCUS has provided allows our agents to reach more members, provide more comprehensive coverage, and ensure that clients fully understand and utilize the benefits they're receiving."

Since implementing WebFOCUS mobile BI, BlueCross has launched multiple applications that drive business value and actionable insights in the areas of market intelligence, provider enablement, and customer insight. During 2013, BlueCross used its BI dashboards to improve healthcare coverage for thousands of members. The tools have helped the organization identify 927,000 people with gaps in care, contact 670,000 of these individuals, and close gaps on 103,000 members.

"The healthcare industry has become increasingly data driven in recent years, and advanced BI tools are essential for today's providers as they work to manage the deluge of patient data," said Gerald Cohen, president and CEO, Information Builders. "Information Builders strives to equip all of our customers -- in the healthcare space and beyond -- with the tools they need to glean meaningful insights from their data and ultimately better serve their clients. We're thrilled to work with BlueCross to improve medical coverage and services for their users and pleased to see them acknowledged for their noteworthy efforts in this area."

"For 27 years now, the CIO 100 awards have honored the innovative use of technology to deliver genuine business value," said Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of CIO Magazine and Events. "Our 2014 winners are an outstanding example of the transformative power of IT to drive everything from revenue growth to competitive advantage."

About the CIO 100
Recipients of this year's CIO 100 Award were selected through a three-step process. First, companies filled out an online application form detailing their innovative IT and business initiatives. Next, a team of external judges (many of them former CIOs) reviewed the applications in depth, looking for leading-edge IT practices and measurable results. Finally, CIO editors reviewed the judges' recommendations and selected the final 100.
