(NYSE: VMW) announced today at VMworld® an expanded relationship with SAP SE (NYSE: SAP) to help simplify mobile app delivery for end users through the integration of mobile place from the SAP Mobile Secure portfolio with AirWatch® by VMware solutions. As the first partner to start to integrate its solution with mobile place, the mobile app management solution from the SAP Mobile Secure portfolio, VMware will enable customers to leverage the AirWatch by VMware platform with SAP mobile apps built using SAP Mobile Platform.

Organizations continue to shift from simple email configuration on mobile devices to robust application and content delivery to improve end-user effectiveness in the mobile-cloud era. VMware will work with SAP in an effort to create standard services to distribute applications through the SAP Mobile Secure portfolio and AirWatch Enterprise Mobility Management™ (EMM) platform. The collaboration is expected to provide a more enhanced experience of applications used for work across corporate-owned, line-of-business and bring your own device (BYOD) scenarios.

"As a customer of both SAP and VMware, including AirWatch, we are delighted to see both companies working together to facilitate deeper integration for the benefit of the customer," said Silji Abraham, chief information officer of Sigma Aldrich. "Our vision at Sigma Aldrich is to create a rich mobile experience on top of SAP applications, secured and managed on devices and tablets by AirWatch and VMware. This brings a combination of mobile apps from SAP with mobile security from VMware in a way that allows us to innovate faster for our business needs."

The expanded VMware and SAP relationship is expected to provide significant advantages for customers, including solutions that can enable:

  • AirWatch customers to gain access to SAP Mobile Secure, SAP's secure application distribution and management solution
  • AirWatch administrators to browse mobile place, the SAP Mobile Secure solution, to select applications relevant to their enterprise, enter company-specific configurations and then distribute the application using AirWatch to selected users
  • Users to access mobile place, the SAP Mobile Secure solution to find an application of interest and install the application on AirWatch managed devices without the need to contact IT.

"By expanding our valued partnership with SAP, we are enabling customers to benefit from secure and more streamlined integration between SAP and our AirWatch solution suite to help accelerate mobility transformation," said Sanjay Poonen, executive vice president and general manager, End-User Computing, VMware. "Our vision is to provide a secure virtual workspace to allow users to work at the speed of life, and being one of the first to partner with SAP in this area, further cements our position as an industry leader and innovator in the mobile-cloud era."

"Integrating mobile place, the mobile app management component from the SAP Mobile Secure portfolio, with AirWatch by VMware demonstrates SAP's commitment to making the mobile application experience simpler and more secure for our customers, regardless of the mobile device management (MDM) solution they may already have in place," said Kevin Ichhpurani, senior vice president and head of Corporate Business Development and Strategic Ecosystem, SAP. "This announcement is an extension of the partnership between SAP and VMware, and is intended to allow customers to leverage our SAP mobile application and security portfolio built on the industry-leading SAP HANA platform alongside mobile management and security solutions from VMware. The aim is to further drive the mobile-first business transformation in the industry."

As part of the SAP Mobile Secure portfolio, mobile place is a brandable, localized and secure enterprise app store that enables companies to more simply and proactively push their mobile apps into the hands of employees, business partners and consumers. The AirWatch by VMware platform offers one of the industry's leading solutions for mobile device, application, email, browser and content management, and is used by more than 13,000 organizations in 150 countries.
