The Brant County SPCA is pleased to announce that the organization will be moving forward with a build for a new Brant County SPCA shelter.

On August 25, 2014 the City of Brantford council unanimously approved the donation of five acres of land and a minimum of 10% of the total project, to a limit of $600,000, for a new shelter.

The current shelter located at 539 Mohawk Street, Brantford was built in 1969 beside a landfill. Due to the location and age of the building numerous problems have resulted making it more difficult to care for the over 3000 animals that come through their doors annually.

"We are excited to get started on this new project. We are grateful that the City is supporting Animal Welfare in our community." Robin McNaughton, Brant County SPCA Board Chair.

"This is the first step to a new beginning and I am so proud to be part of it. To everyone who helped us reach this milestone, we can't thank you enough." Robin Kuchma, Executive Director, Brant County SPCA

"The SPCA has been providing animal protection and welfare services to the City of Brantford for over 45 years through highly committed, knowledgeable staff and volunteers. The City is committed to helping to secure a suitable location that will meet the needs of SPCA while positioning the operations to be accessible to the community." Mayor Chris Friel, City of Brantford
