Ivera Medical Files Patent Infringement Case Against Catheter Connections and CTI for Sales of Light Blue DualCap IV Pole Strips

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwired - Sep 17, 2014) - Ivera Medical announced that it has filed a new patent infringement case against Catheter Connections and its Ohio-based distributor, Clinical Technology Inc., based on sales of their Light Blue DualCap IV Pole Strips product for luer-activated valves. The complaint seeks preliminary and injunctive relief against sales of the accused product, as well as damages caused by their infringement.

"We were the inventor of Strip technology and, although imitation is indeed a form of flattery, infringing on our intellectual property is not an acceptable option," said Bob Rogers, CEO of Ivera Medical. "The long-awaited issuance of our Strip patent is an important step in protecting our proprietary products. Catheter Connections has had little success with their port protector business, so they decided to copy our advances in the industry in hopes they could change their fortunes, but our patent protection does not allow this."

The Curos Strip was first conceived in 2006 and launched in 2011, and is the most frequently utilized product from the market-leading Ivera Medical. The recently issued U.S. Patent No. 8,834,650 is directed to a system of disinfecting caps for luer-activated valves that are attached to a strip of material. "We have invested significant resources in developing technology to assist hospitals with their disinfection practices and we will pursue all parties who infringe on our inventions," said Mr. Rogers.
