Statement by the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Calgary International Film Festival

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Sept. 18, 2014) - I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to the Calgary International Film Festival (CIFF) on the occasion of its 15th anniversary. Canada is home to a wealth of talented artists and creators who enrich our culture and contribute to the nation's economy. It's an exciting time for Canada's film industry, and I am proud of the reputation our country enjoys because of its world-class talent, crews and facilities and its breathtaking locations.

The CIFF provides a terrific platform from which to promote Canada's best and brightest. This annual celebration of visual arts and cinema presents over 200 films from around the world and includes a series of gala events, awards ceremonies and special presentations.

Our Government is committed to supporting Canada's creative industries. Every year, we invest more than $600 million in our audiovisual sector through Telefilm Canada, the National Film Board of Canada, the Canada Media Fund and tax credits.
On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to thank the CIFF for its hard work and dedication in honouring outstanding Canadian talent. All the best for a fantastic festival this year!
