Centre celebrates 10th anniversary

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 18, 2014) - Department of Canadian Heritage

The Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), today attended the public meeting of the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada (SDRCC), during which the organization marked its 10th anniversary. The SDRCC receives up to $1 million annually through Sport Canada's Sport Support Program.

Quick Facts

  • The SDRCC was created in 2003 by the Physical Activity and Sport Act as an arm's-length, not-for-profit corporation, with the mandate to provide the sport community with a national alternative dispute resolution service for sport disputes, as well as expertise and assistance regarding alternative dispute resolution.
  • In 2013-2014 the SDRCC managed 41 cases, dealing with team selection, athlete carding, discipline, governance matters, anti-doping violations and doping appeals. Its pro bono program provided free legal assistance in 30 cases and saved parties an estimated $200,000 in legal fees.
