ARCTEC Alaska, a joint-venture partnership between ATCO Structures & Logistics and ASRC Federal Primus, has been awarded a contract to provide operations and maintenance services to 15 strategic radar sites that form the Alaska Radar System (ARS). The 10-year contract, awarded by the United States Department of the Air Force, is valued at more than USD$340 million.

The contract, which commences in October 2016, follows a successful 19-year relationship with the United States Department of the Air Force which previously saw the partners provide these services to the radar sites.

ARCTEC will be responsible for maintaining the geographically isolated radar sites (accessible only by air and/or seasonal barge), three remote radio sites, and providing operations and maintenance of facilities at the primary base for the ARS - Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. This includes seven gravel airstrips, gravel access roads, utilities, water systems, power generation, environmental management, snow removal, transportation, weather observation and other logistics support.

"We are delighted to continue working with the U.S. Department of the Air Force and to retain the responsibility for the operation and maintenance of these critical defense assets," said George Lidgett, President, ATCO Structures & Logistics. "We are committed to supporting the North American Aerospace Defense Command and the United States Northern Command mission for air sovereignty within Alaska."
