LISTOWEL, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 25, 2014) - Department of Canadian Heritage

The Government of Canada has provided $8,800 to the Listowel Agricultural Society through the Legacy Fund of the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program.

Gary Schellenberger, Member of Parliament (Perth-Wellington), announced the funding today on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

Funding supports the installation of a commissioned sculpture and a commemorative bench, as well as minor renovations to the interior of the Hall.

• The Listowel Armoury, built in 1914, is where the Canadian Expeditionary Force received their basic military training before heading overseas during the First World War.
• It was decommissioned in 1970 and became the Listowel Agricultural Hall, as it is still known today.
• The Listowel Agricultural Hall hosts a variety of community gatherings, including the Listowel Fair.
