Statement by the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of Culture Days

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 26, 2014) - Culture Days allows us to express who we are, both as individuals and as a nation, in the most creative way.

For five years, Culture Days has given Canadians an opportunity to experience the artistic and cultural life of their communities. This year's event takes place from September 26 to 28, 2014. I encourage all Canadians to take part in this national celebration of arts and culture and enjoy free Culture Days public activities.

Our Government is committed to supporting Canada's arts, culture and heritage, and we know how important they are to our communities, our identity and our economy. We are proud to have contributed to the growing success of Culture Days since the first edition in 2010. In 2013, more than 1.7 million Canadians in all provinces and territories took part in 7,573 free Culture Days events in 825 communities.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I commend the Culture Days organizing committees, the provinces and territories, and all the private organizations, artists and volunteers involved for making arts and culture accessible to all Canadians.
