Today, more than $1.8 million was raised by 2,100 participants, sponsors and volunteers at The Canaccord Genuity Great Camp Adventure Walk presented by Sport Chek to benefit SickKids. Participants walked 5, 10, 15 or 20 kilometres, starting and ending at Fort York. This camp-themed walk event is the only of its kind in Canada.

Families, corporate teams and hospital staff departed from Fort York at 9 a.m. and walked through the streets of downtown Toronto, stopping at seven pit stops (campsites) along the way to enjoy camp-themed activities. Participants watched flags raise, raced in potato sacks, kayaked, solved puzzles, made crafts, sang and danced and ended the day with a closing campfire - all while raising critical funds for The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids).

"It was tremendous to see so many members of our community participate, fundraise and challenge themselves today to walk as far as they could for SickKids," said Ted Garrard, President and CEO, SickKids Foundation. "We are grateful to these participants and to our generous sponsors, including title sponsor Canaccord Genuity, presenting sponsor Sport Chek and our media partners Bell Media and Corus Entertainment, all of whom have shared our excitement for bringing this unique event to life for the second year."

Canaccord Genuity supported the event this year for the second time after signing on as title sponsor for the inaugural event in 2013.

"We are delighted to see a meaningful increase in community participation and funds raised for the second annual Canaccord Genuity Great Camp Adventure Walk," said Paul Reynolds, President and CEO of Canaccord Genuity Group Inc. "We take pride in our partnership with The Hospital for Sick Children and thank all participants for their generous contributions to support the important work that SickKids does to improve children's health at home and around the world."

New to this year's event was presenting sponsor Sport Chek, which hosted a special sport-themed, interactive campsite adjacent to SickKids at the 5 km mark.

"Congratulations to SickKids Foundation, hospital staff, event participants and volunteers for hosting such a fantastic day for The Hospital for Sick Children," said Michael Medline, President, Canadian Tire Corporation. "The team at Sport Chek was proud to contribute to the incredible fundraising efforts and it is wonderful to see the community come together to help inspire and support a wonderful cause."

Additional sponsors for this year's event include PetSmart, Muskoka BearWear, Allen's, Bass Pro Shops, Clek, Continental Gold, Mandell Entertainment Group, and Reprodux. These sponsors are among several individuals and organizations who contributed to the day's success.

Funds raised through this event support the Possibilities Fund at SickKids, dedicated to improving the health of children. Support from the community through events like this is essential to provide the best in family-centred, compassionate care, to lead in scientific and clinical advancement, and to prepare the next generation of leaders in child health.

The Canaccord Genuity Great Camp Adventure Walk returns to Toronto on Saturday, September 26, 2015. To re-register or to register for the first time, please visit: WalkForSickKids.ca.
