M*Modal Updates Fluency Direct Speech Software With CAPD for Real-Time Physician Feedback

Computer-Assisted Physician Documentation Feature Promotes Better Accuracy, Compliance and Efficiency in Capturing Clinical Data in Electronic Medical Record Systems

FRANKLIN, TN--(Marketwired - Sep 29, 2014) - M*Modal, a leading provider of clinical documentation and Speech Understanding™ solutions, today announced the availability of computer-assisted physician documentation (CAPD) for its M*Modal Fluency Direct™ speech software. This capability provides real-time feedback to physicians as they dictate or type clinical documentation in electronic health record (EHR) systems.

M*Modal is demonstrating Fluency Direct with CAPD at the 2014 AHIMA Convention and Exhibit, held September 27 - October 2 in San Diego, Calif. (M*Modal Booth #821).

M*Modal Fluency Direct is cloud-based, front-end speech recognition software that enables doctors to conversationally create and edit clinical data directly within the EHR, promoting system adoption. Embedded within Fluency Direct, CAPD automatically identifies the most common documentation deficiencies and automatically generates feedback to the physician, asking for additional information or clarification when appropriate. This helps to eliminate costly and time-consuming queries later in the care cycle for clinical documentation improvements (CDI) or coding.

"Patient records must be accurate and complete, for ensuring proper diagnosis, and for driving downstream processes like coding and reimbursements," said Matt Jenkins, SVP of Business Development for M*Modal. "M*Modal's solutions promote better documentation by giving healthcare providers tools to create patient records at the beginning of the care cycle. And with CAPD, physicians get immediate feedback as they dictate or type, helping to ensure they're creating quality documents."

M*Modal's new solution seamlessly fits within physician workflows, promoting complete and accurate patient records from the start. CAPD displays are integrated in the Fluency Direct user interface, and once an identified deficiency is resolved, the related feedback message disappears. This helps simplify the documentation process and eliminate time-consuming retrospective queries, giving physicians back time to their day.

In addition, HIM departments can easily configure CAPD to set feedback guidelines to address future documentation requirements as well as the industry-wide transition to the new ICD-10 coding standard.

M*Modal's solutions leverage a single, cloud-based architecture to capture clinical documentation and turn it into structured data that can be shared across applications and EHR systems. M*Modal Fluency Direct is designed from the ground up to specifically recognize healthcare terminology, and leverages cloud computing to let physicians access their trained voice profile anytime and anywhere.

Fluency Direct with CAPD is available now.
