Operation Christmas Child was created in 1993 by Samaritan's Purse®, a non-denominational Evangelical Christian organization that provides humanitarian services to people in need. The Operation Christmas Child program involves packing shoeboxes with gifts and hygiene items for children around the world. Contributors choose a gender and age category and pack appropriate gifts of their choice into shoeboxes. The packed boxes are then labeled and dropped at designated locations, along with a $7 donation per box to cover shipping and program costs. The filled boxes are then delivered to selected countries, and the boxes can be tracked to their destinations if donations are made online.
SpaceSavers Product Specialist Tammy Karr, says the Operation Christmas Child box program has been rewarding for the company. Though boxes used for Operation Christmas Child don't have to be plastic, the company sees offering special pricing as a way to contribute to the worthwhile cause.
"Unlike cardboard boxes, plastic boxes can be re-purposed," said Karr. "Plastic boxes are especially valuable in developing countries because they can be used for carrying water, or for protecting food from insects and the elements. We hope that offering special prices on bulk quantity sets of boxes will encourage people to participate in the program."
SpaceSavers.com is offering bulk pricing on clear, plastic 6-quart boxes from Sterilite, which are available in sets of 12, 24, 48, and 72. National collection week for the Operation Christmas Child boxes program is slated for November 17-24, 2014.
