SPRINGFIELD, NJ--(Marketwired - Oct 22, 2014) - Gehrlicher Solar America Corp. (GSAC), a company of the M+W Group, was recognized as the #1 Commercial Solar Contractor in the recently released 2014 edition of Solar Power World magazine's Top 400 Solar Contractors list.

The company took first place in the commercial/industrial/government contractor category and also improved its standings in the overall listings, moving up five spaces from the 2013 rankings in overall rankings. GSAC also cracked the top 10 in the engineering/procurement/construction (EPC) listing and was ranked second among New Jersey-based solar firms.

The rankings were based on the total megawatts installed by GSAC in 2013. The company deployed 82.8MW last year, nearly three times the amount installed in 2012.

"Gehrlicher Solar America's strong showing in Solar Power World's 2014 Top 400 Solar Contractors list affirms the healthy growth curve we've been experiencing over the past two years," said Jerry Shinn, President of GSAC. "Since M+W Group acquired Gehrlicher Solar Americas in 2013, our business has continued to expand at a double-digit pace, as return and new customers rely on our proven track record of completing high-quality, revenue-producing commercial and utility-scale solar projects."

The Solar Power World (SPW) 2014 Top Solar Contractors list features companies working in four markets -- utility, commercial, residential and off-grid -- and in varying capacities. The list ranks applicants according to their influence in the solar market in 2013, based on the number of megawatts that a company installed during the year. The top companies were honored at an awards gala on October 20, held in conjunction with the Solar Power International show in Las Vegas.

The SPW Top 400 honors come on the heels of Gehrlicher Solar America and its partners receiving one of PV America's "Photovoltaic Projects of Distinction" awards for their work on the Scituate Solar 1 capped landfill installation.
