RECIFE, BRAZIL--(Marketwired - Oct 22, 2014) - A brand-new initiative will enable the Pernambuco Bill Court (PBC) to reduce its licensing costs for Microsoft Office® by 90%. The results were achieved through a partnership with Safetec Informatica, which conducted an evaluation over 60 days that analyzed the usage patterns of 1,200 employees of the Court. The agency will be the first government institution to adopt measures that reduce IT budgets.

The evaluation consisted of monitoring employee usage of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint through CloudIT, a cloud-based service offered by Israeli company SoftWatch, a Safetec partner.

Based on this evaluation, PBC currently is planning the migration of its users to the Google Apps for Work platform. A pre-established schedule should enable all users to be using the Google service platform in 6 months. "We will assess each department in order to understand which of the daily processes can be optimized," says André Lima, Leader of the project for the PBC.

"We expect to optimize software use in our organization while reducing costs for taxpayers who help fund our agency," states Rodrigo Arruda, chief information officer of PBC. "The average estimated cost ranges up to R$1,000 per Microsoft Office license. With the new Google Apps for Work platform, the savings could be as much as R$ 700.000,00.

SoftWatch estimates that by transitioning light users from Microsoft Office to Google Apps, many companies can save up to 90% on their Microsoft licensing fees.

For Safetec Executive Director Antonio Lapa, the pioneering initiative of PCB will motivate other government agencies to follow the same path. "Pernambuco staff should be proud to be able to help such a significant institution start ahead of all other public organizations in the entire country. We believe that the great value we bring to our partners is to present solutions that bring continuous improvement to internal processes and the user experience, at a significant cost reduction.
