Securonix Appoints Former Bank of America Executive as Chief Scientist to Further Advance the Use of Machine Learning for Cyber and Insider Threat Detection

Former SVP of Global Information Security at Bank of America, Igor Baikalov, to Lead Cyber Security Research and Threat Analytics as Securonix Continues Groundbreaking Research in the Detection of Cyber Attacks

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - Oct 22, 2014) - Securonix today announced the appointment of Igor Baikalov as Chief Scientist to lead the research and analytics division at Securonix. A security veteran of more than 25 years, Baikalov will lead the company's innovative cyber security and insider threat research to further develop Securonix's signature-less threat detection capabilities through the application of machine learning and statistical anomaly detection techniques.

Baikalov brings strong experience in big data analytics in areas ranging from structural biology and bioinformatics to insider threat and risk monitoring. Most recently he served as Senior Vice President, Global Information Security at Bank of America, where he was responsible for developing security intelligence and risk analytics solutions. While at Bank of America, Baikalov focused on creating innovative solutions for predictive analytics, risk-based access governance and proactive data protection.

"Cyber threats change daily, introducing new actions, triggers, size and targets. Because of this, proven and true security analytics have become a foundational layer that are imperative for organizations to remain one step ahead of attackers," said Baikalov. "I look forward to contributing to Securonix's leadership in behavioral analytics with a strong focus on threat detection and data protection."

"Our adversaries are using new and improved techniques to launch targeted cyber attacks. The current uni-dimensional defense systems have failed to detect these advanced threats," said Tanuj Gulati, CTO, Securonix. "Igor brings several years of experience studying the DNA of advanced attacks and implementing solutions at scale. We are very excited to have him advance our research on emerging threats."

Securonix is the industry-leading platform for security analytics that provides advanced monitoring and threat detection capabilities. With a powerful context assignment, anomaly detection and visualization engine, the Securonix platform analyzes events, identity, access and transaction data to detect advanced threats and risk ranks threats for proactive security management.

"I've known Igor for many years now. He truly believes that data analytics provides answers to many of the problems that organizations have been struggling with for many years -- Identity and Access Management, Data Exfiltration, High Privilege User Monitoring, Cloud and Mobile adoption. Igor's charter will be to ensure that Securonix continues to provide its customers the best analytical capabilities at scale," said Sachin Nayyar, CEO, Securonix.

A scientist by trade and innovator by heart, Baikalov is an author of nine scientific publications and ten commercial patents. He holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from UCLA, M.S. in Biophysics from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, and maintains CISSP certification.
