Trifacta's Chief Strategy Officer to Keynote at IEEE International Conference on Big Data

Joe Hellerstein to Discuss Addressing Human Bottlenecks in Data-Driven Organizations and Why They Are Critical Barriers to Success

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - Oct 28, 2014) - Trifacta, a leading Data Transformation Platform provider, today announced that Trifacta's Co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer, Joe Hellerstein, will present a keynote talk at IEEE BigData 2014 on Thursday, October 30, 2014. Hellerstein will discuss how the critical bottlenecks in data-driven organizations are human bottlenecks, measured in the cost of software developers, IT professionals and data analysts.

"In the world of big data, Hadoop and NoSQL, the key bottlenecks lie with data analysts and software engineers rather than with hardware or software. I am looking forward to discussing how techniques from human-computer interaction, machine learning and database theory are helping to ease the human bottlenecks in data-driven organizations and how we're applying those techniques in Trifacta's Data Transformation Platform," said Joe Hellerstein, CSO of Trifacta.

What: IEEE BigData Conference 2014

Where: Hyatt Regency Bethesda, One Bethesda Metro Center
7400 Wisconsin Ave, Bethesda, Maryland 20814, Crystal Ballroom

When: Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 8:30am ET

Hellerstein's talk will cover human-centric challenges in both analytic and operational workloads for big data. He will discuss user deployments, and what he has learned from data analysts and developers and their design patterns. On the operational front, Hellerstein will present theoretical results -- the CALM Theorem -- that shed light on what's possible to achieve without distributed coordination, and what requires more expensive tools for coordination on top of the typical NoSQL offerings. The discussion will also cover new approaches to writing and testing software -- exemplified by the Bloom language -- that can help developers of distributed software avoid expensive coordination, and have the coordination logic synthesized for them automatically when necessary. On the analytics front, the talk will cover studies of data analysts in the field, and the sources of their critical bottlenecks. It will present solutions -- like those from Trifacta -- that overcome key human bottlenecks with techniques from machine learning, human-computer interaction, and database technology.
