Media Advisory: National Project Red Ribbon Campaign for Sober Driving Launches in Saint John

SAINT JOHN, NEW BRUNSWICK--(Marketwired - Oct. 30, 2014) - Get ready to tie one on, Saint John. A red ribbon, that is.

Saint John is the location for the 2014 launch of MADD Canada's national Project Red Ribbon campaign to promote sober driving over the coming holiday season. Saint John Police, Kennebecasis Regional Police and the RCMP will join MADD Canada and Project Red Ribbon sponsors, Irving Oil and Allstate Insurance Company of Canada for the official launch ceremony on November 3rd at Saint John Police Headquarters.

Front and centre at the launch event will be an Irving Oil tanker adorned with the Project Red Ribbon messaging. Irving Oil fleet vehicles, which cover between 6 to 8 million kilometers each year throughout Eastern Canada and New England, feature the MADD Canada logo and red ribbon decals.

Media are welcome to attend the event and speak with special guests.

Now in its 27th year, Project Red Ribbon targets the Christmas and New Year holiday season because it is the busiest time of year on most social calendars and the risk for impaired driving is high. From November 1, 2014 to January 5, 2015, MADD Canada Chapters and Community Leaders across the country will distribute millions of red ribbons for Canadians to tie on their vehicles, key chains, purses, briefcases and backpacks. The red ribbon is a symbol of the wearers' commitment to sober driving, and a tribute to the thousands of Canadians who are killed and injured in impairment-related crashes each year.
