HarperCollins, Penguin Young Readers, Random House Children's Books Among Publishers to Add Lexile Measures for Its Books

Major Publishers Use Popular Reading Metric to Help Individuals Choose Level-Appropriate Texts

DURHAM, NC--(Marketwired - Nov 3, 2014) - Today, MetaMetrics®, developer of the widely adopted Lexile® Framework for Reading, announced that HarperCollins Publishers, Penguin Young Readers (a U.S. division of Penguin Random House) and Random House Children's Books (a U.S. division of Penguin Random House) will be providing Lexile® measures for many of their titles. With MetaMetrics' existing text measurement agreements with Simon & Schuster and Macmillan Publishers, MetaMetrics has now secured text measurement agreements with four out of five of the major trade book publishing companies in the United States. In addition to these major publishers, the following publishers join the over 300 publishers that offer Lexile measures for thousands of titles:

Lexile measures offer information about a book's text complexity. A Lexile text measure is based on the semantic and syntactic characteristics of a text. Readers can use Lexile measures to select titles that best match their unique ability level and reading goals. Recognized as the global standard for matching readers with texts, tens of millions of students worldwide receive Lexile measures that help them find targeted readings from the more than 100 million articles, books and websites that have been measured. Lexile measures range from below 200L for early reader text to above 2000L for more advanced text.

"We are elated to welcome these publishers into our family of publishers," said Malbert Smith III, Ph.D., president and cofounder of MetaMetrics. "All of these publishers are renowned worldwide for their exceptional works. Their reputation for excellence has set the standard in publishing for years. We are thrilled such distinguished publishers have chosen Lexile measures to guide their readers when making selections based on text complexity."
