BIOPAC and WorldViz Announce aLIAS Virtual Reality Software Research Package

New Lab Software Combines Lifelike Virtual Reality With High Experimental Control

GOLETA, CA--(Marketwired - Nov 14, 2014) - BIOPAC Systems Inc. and WorldViz are pleased to announce the aLIAS: A Lifelike Immersive Affective Stimulation System virtual reality software. This powerful, budget friendly research package utilizes the latest HMD technology from Oculus to deliver lifelike stimulation while maintaining high experimental control.

aLIAS aims to induce specific emotional states in participants through virtual reality immersion. The software contains a wide collection of stimulation scenarios for researchers to work with.

Researchers are also given control over the scenarios through options that allow for control of inter stimulus intervals, adjusting the order of stimulation, and ambient sounds and other sound effects without programming. Users even have access to the aLIAS source code to develop their own content.

"Researchers need to have a high degree of experiment control and the aLIAS provides that with its variety of customization options contained within the software and the availability of its source code," said BIOPAC CEO Frazer Findlay.

The emphasis for these stimuli is to provide true immersion for participants. "These are real scenarios contained in the software, not simply static images," said Andy Beall, WorldViz CEO. "Subjects' physiological responses are thus much more real so when they are falling in the simulation for example, there body thinks that they are actually falling," Beall said.

The software works in combination with BIOPAC's wireless BioNomadix and MP150 devices to deliver physiological data recordings. Throughout the experiment, markers for events and conditions are automatically added to the data making analysis easier than ever.

The aLIAS software package will be showing at this year's Neuroscience Society Conference in Washington D.C. from November 16-19. Representative from both BIOPAC Systems and WorldViz will be giving live demonstrations at their combined booth #1237.
