JW Marriott Opens Its First Resort in India With 5-Star Mussoorie Property

JW Marriott Mussoorie Walnut Grove Resort & Spa Offers Entertainment Complex, Dining and a Spa

NEW DELHI, INDIA--(Marketwired - Nov 24, 2014) - The hill stations of India have long been a local escape, attracting the weary with their lush landscapes, fresh air and natural beauty. With the opening of the JW Marriott Mussoorie Walnut Grove Resort & Spa, the brand's first resort and sixth property in the country, the Mussoorie hill station now appeals to those who want a touch of luxury with their nature trek.

"Each year, thousands of travelers pass through the picturesque hill station of Mussoorie to experience its temples, gardens, hiking trails and natural falls," Mitzi Gaskins, vice president and global brand manager for JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts, says, "and we are thrilled to celebrate that rich history and culture with our guests."

The luxury hotel in Mussoorie borrows from its setting in the Himalayas with a style that's inspired by the area's historic walnut plantations and a design that highlights the beauty of the mountains. Each of the 115 guest rooms and suites features a balcony, offering a private space for guests to take in the stunning view and the fresh mountain air. The resort's Cedar Spa by L'Occitane, with five treatment rooms, offers therapies inspired by the indigenous cedar trees, including the Signature Cedarwod Body Massage. A state-of-the-art fitness center with indoor heated swimming pool allows visitors to enjoy a complete wellness experience.

"The opening of the first JW Marriott resort in India is undoubtedly a milestone for the JW Marriott brand and Marriott International at large," said Mr. Rajeev Menon, Area Vice President of South-Asia for Marriott International. "JW Marriott Mussoorie Walnut Grove Resort & Spa reflects the sophistication, style and exceptional service, attributes that have grown synonymous with the JW Marriott brand worldwide."

With such a breathtaking setting, the resort is the ideal venue for a destination wedding near Dehradun, only 60 kilometers (about 40 miles) away. Its 3,300-square-foot Grand Orchard Ballroom is among the largest in the city, and includes a spacious pre-function area and three break-out rooms. Brides-to-be can prep for their big day at the resort's Salon by Warren Tricomi and rest assured that their perfect day will be flawless with the help of onsite catering and planning teams.

Event space comes in other forms at this Mussoorie resort, too. The Den, a 12,000-square-foot entertainment center and kid's club, offers a two-lane bowling alley, billiard and pool tables, gaming consoles, a library, nap areas and a Market with fresh food and beverages. Five specialty restaurants cater to a variety of palates and groups, including a family-friendly meal at JW Café, featuring an open kitchen and international dishes; Asian cuisine in an upscale setting at Teppan; an inviting traditional Italian trattoria at Wisteria Deck; fresh-grilled seafood and cocktails at Trout House Grill & Bar and the finest teas and coffees at Perch.

"Our hotel has the distinction of catering to the entire family with a plethora of entertainment, dining and relaxation amenities that showcase the best of local ingredients, all in the lap of international luxury," Chandrashekhar Joshi, the resort's general manager, says.
