Water Leaders to Gather for "Moment of Truth" at ACWA Fall Conference & Exhibition

More Than 1,600 Water Officials to Attend Dec. 2-5 Event in San Diego

SACRAMENTO, CA--(Marketwired - Nov 24, 2014) - With an epic drought and decisive passage of Proposition 1 as a backdrop, water leaders from throughout California will gather in San Diego Dec. 2-5 for the Association of California Water Agencies' 2014 Fall Conference & Exhibition, themed "Moment of Truth: One State, One Water Future." The conference will be held at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego.

The conference, which is expected to draw more than 1,600 local, state and federal water managers, will feature more than 80 programs, keynote addresses and panel discussions on California's critical water issues. Some of the topics explored include landmark groundwater legislation enacted this fall, lessons learned from Australia's "Millennium Drought," the future of water storage in California, preparing for extreme weather events and water transfers.

Keynote Speakers include:

  • Dr. Stuart White, director of the Institute for Sustainable Futures at the University of Technology, Sydney, will share lessons learned from Australia's "Millennium Drought" during the conference opening breakfast Wednesday, Dec. 3.
  • Senate President Pro Tem Emeritus Darrell Steinberg will reflect on successful passage of water bond legislation and other water-related developments this year and during his tenure at the Capitol. Steinberg will speak at the general luncheon on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
  • Leading water attorney Eric Garner will put 2014's landmark groundwater legislation in context in keynote remarks at lunch on Thursday, Dec. 4.
  • State Treasurer Bill Lockyer and Tony Krvaric, vice chair of the California Republican Party and chair of the Republican Party of San Diego County, will offer political analysis of the recent election at the breakfast program on Friday, Dec. 5.
