NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - November 26, 2014) - B&H Photo is excited to share Sony's announcement of the Alpha a7II; the newest update to its a7 series of full-frame mirrorless digital cameras, now featuring 5-axis SteadyShot INSIDE image stabilization, which corrects for pitch, yaw, horizontal and vertical shifts and roll movements to effectively render any E-mount or adapted lens stabilized. This advanced image-stabilization system compensates for up to 4.5 stops of camera shake, and benefits both still shooting and video-recording applications, with real-time stabilized viewing in the XGA OLED Tru-Finder EVF or via the rear tilting 3.0" 1,228.8k-dot LCD monitor.

Carried over from the original a7 camera, the a7II features a 24.3MP Exmor CMOS sensor and the BIONZ X image processor to enable native sensitivity to ISO 25600 and 5 fps continuous shooting. The sensor and processor combination also benefits the Fast Hybrid AF system, with 117 phase-detection points and 25 contrast-detection points, and features an enhanced AF algorithm to realize faster AF response and greater subject-tracking accuracy.

The imaging system also contributes to upgraded video capabilities, which now enable recording full HD 1080/60p/60i/24p video in the XAVC S format at a high bit rate of 50Mbps. The S-Log2 gamma curve can now be applied to video, too, for extending the dynamic range during recording. Timecode and user bit functions are also available.

Benefitting the still and video assets of the a7II, an enhanced body design sees a deeper handgrip, re-positioned shutter-release button, and magnesium-alloy top cover, as well as greater weather sealing, compared to previous a7 models. Built-in Wi-Fi, with support for NFC connectivity, is also integrated into the camera's design. The camera is available in two configurations: body only or bundled with FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Lens.

The Sony a7II has multiple timecode recording options to meet different workflows. It has the standard "Record Run" mode that only advances the timecode when recording, as well as "Free Run" timecode that advances the timecode even when not recording, which can be great for syncing multiple cameras at live events. It can also record timecode in both drop frame and non-drop frame modes. When recording internally the a7II is also able to output timecode via HDMI.

Also announced by Sony is a new telephoto zoom offering for its A-mount DSLT cameras: the 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 G SSM II. This updated lens features an improved Nano AR coating for greater resistant to lens flare and ghosting, as well as speedier autofocus performance and a reinforced weather-resistant construction.
