NorthStar Ford Group Canada & Holy Trinity Catholic High School Raise $6,300 & 2,800 Pounds of Food for Wood Buffalo Food Bank

FORT MCMURRAY, AB--(Marketwired - Nov 26, 2014) - NorthStar Ford Group Canada and Holy Trinity Catholic High School stood up to hunger this October by raising a whopping $6,300 and 2,800 pounds of food for Wood Buffalo Food Bank. The effort was part of the month-long We Scare Hunger campaign, which encouraged schools, communities and businesses to get involved in the fight against hunger in Canada.

Marty Giles, dealer principal of NorthStar Ford, said, "What was great about this fundraising activity is this was really grassroots. One of the core values of NorthStar Ford Group is that we must support the communities that support us. Our NorthStar team really embraced the initiative once again which makes me extremely proud of them."

According to Arianna Johnson, executive director at Wood Buffalo Food Bank, "The food and funds the campaign raised came at a vital time for the food bank as food is still being given out faster than it is coming in during the fall. It was an amazing success and we are extremely grateful to the school and NorthStar Ford for their efforts to help us nourish families across our region."

On Nov. 3, 2014, members of NorthStar Ford and Holy Trinity presented a cheque and three truckloads of food weighing around 2,800 pounds to Wood Buffalo Food Bank. The donations were collected during the month of October by going door-to-door, trick-or-treating and inviting the community to drop off non-perishable food items.

Sarah Scott, a teacher at Holy Trinity, said, "At Holy Trinity we have a group of students who are selfless and devote themselves to helping others. The students do not participate in activities like We Scare Hunger for recognition, but because they know it is the right thing to do. We look forward to participating in the event next year, and hope to keep increasing the impact we can make in our community."
