Placer County Selects MediaValet to Make Thousands of Photos and Videos Available to 2,500 Employees

AUBURN, CA and VANCOUVER, BC--(Marketwired - January 08, 2015) - The Placer County Government, located in California and serving a population of 350,000 people, has chosen MediaValet (TSX VENTURE: MVP) to aggregate, organize, secure and share their library of 10,000 photos and videos across 20+ departments and over 2,500 employees.

A County Government, Placer County, has over 20 widely dispersed departments from Public Safety to Agriculture, Child Support Services to Building Maintenance, and Public Health to Transportation. One need all these departments have in common is quick and easy access to high quality photography and video assets for presentations and marketing collateral.

"We all know a picture is worth a thousand words," said Erik Bergen, IT Analyst at Placer County's Administrative Services Departments Telecommunications Divisions Media Services Group. "Over the past few years we've experienced firsthand how incredibly effective high quality photos and videos are at conveying our messages to our various audiences."

"A couple of years ago, we stopped relying on stock photography and started taking our own photos in an effort to capture the diverse and iconic imagery specific to Placer County. This has increased the utility of the images we have access to and within a very short time we've amassed a large database of over 10,000 high quality photos and videos. Prior to MediaValet, these photos were only available on a local computer. Today, our primary library of media assets are directly accessible by all of our employees -- no matter where they are," continued Erik.

Before MediaValet and the Cloud came along, the process of accessing, locating and sharing media assets was highly restrictive and labour-intensive. First, people would need to know that such a library of corporately owned photos and videos even existed and second, who they had to talk to in order to gain access to them. Then, they'd need to reach out and explain what they were looking for. The entire processes of searching, confirming, and delivering could take days to complete -- if not weeks.

It became clear to Placer County that they needed a digital asset management system, one that was cloud-based so all departments could easily access Placer's library of media assets. In addition to cloud-based, Placer County wanted a system that is maintained by the vendor, is user-friendly for all levels of computer users, provides access and use rights at the asset and folder level, and has robust categorization, keywording, and search capabilities.

"Often employees didn't know what they needed for their projects, which made it difficult to locate what they were looking for," continued Erik. "We chose MediaValet because its simple, intuitive, user-interface helps general users easily browse, search, and filter our large library of media assets in various ways until they find what they're looking for."

MediaValet is leading an entirely new generation of digital asset management systems that are forged in the Cloud. Built from the ground up on Microsoft's platform-as-a-service (PaaS) cloud offering, Microsoft Azure, MediaValet makes it easier for organizations, such as Placer County, to securely aggregate, organize, manage, and share their priceless collections of digital assets.

"Public sector organizations face the same challenges private sector companies do when trying to access, manage and leverage their digital assets," commented David MacLaren, President and CEO of MediaValet. "In the coming months we'll be onboarding Placer County's various departments, including the Placer County Sherriff's Department and the Placer County Transportation Department -- each of which has very different access and use requirements."

Currently, Placer County is uploading their large library of photos and videos with the intention of rolling out access department by department. In the future, PowerPoint templates and other digital assets will be added to the system. Once all employees have access to the main library of assets, Placer intends to allow other departments to add their photos to the library with varying access rights across the organization.
