San Diego Company Recognized for Innovation That Transforms Polluted and Brackish Water to Drinking Water and Valuable Fertilizers

The KNEW Process Recognized as Best Process to Demonstrate Innovation in Water Use, Clean-Up and Re-Use With Emphasis on Reducing Environmental Impact

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwired - Jan 14, 2015) - Glenjohn Capital Company announced its KNEW technology was awarded the IChemE Water Management and Supply Award specifically for its patented process in remediating mine effluent called Acid Mine Drainage (AMD), fracking discharge and brackish ground water.

The process effectively extracts all harmful minerals resulting in potable water and other commercially viable products such as potassium nitrate, ammonium sulfate, and gypsum.

The IChemE Award is presented by The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) and recognizes the best project or process to demonstrate innovation in water use, clean-up and re-use, with a particular emphasis on reducing environmental impact while preserving commercial viability.

According to Glenn Howard, Founder and CEO of Glenjohn Capital, "We appreciate this recognition of our process that solves a huge environmental problem. KNEW creates new sources of usable water, and produces fertilizers that are used in horticulture and hydroponic farming."

"The dream of providing water and food for all is within reach. We can now grow fruits and vegetables in arid areas using water and fertilizer produced on site. Our team is dedicated to solving environmental problems and creating sustainable environments where none existed before," added Howard.

The KNEW process uses proven, scalable ion exchange technology. The word KNEW is an acronym for "potassium nitrate (KNO3) Ex Waste." In the KNEW process the polluted waste water from mines or fracking is neutralized, filtered to remove coarse particles and precipitated heavy metals, then pumped through an ion exchange system to remove the dissolved minerals producing water of any desired quality. The dissolved minerals are then blended with other chemicals to produce potassium nitrate, ammonium nitrate and sodium chloride. The Institute of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) has described the KNEW process in publications as the only cash-positive zero-discharge AMD, fracking and brackish water remediation process available.
