Improvements to Four Community Infrastructures in Lac-Saint-Jean-Est RCM


QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Jan. 22, 2015) - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced that four organizations in the Regional County Municipality (RCM) of Lac-Saint-Jean-Est have been granted financial assistance to renovate their respective community halls.

This support has been awarded in the form of four non-repayable contributions totalling $206,557 through the Local Investment Initiative (LII).

  • The four recipients of this financial support are: Havre de l'Hospitalité Inc., Accès conditions vie Lac-Saint-Jean-Est, the city of Desbiens and the municipality of Labrecque.

Improvements to four community infrastructures in Lac-Saint-Jean-Est RCM

The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced that four organizations in the Regional County Municipality (RCM) of Lac-Saint-Jean-Est have been granted financial assistance to renovate their respective community halls.

Promoter Contribution - Investment - Project Description
Havre de l'Hospitalité Inc. Non-repayable contribution of $66,000 on a total investment of $132,000

A non-profit organization, Havre de l'hospitalité offers the population of Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean community halls accommodating more than to 100 people. These rooms are used for public activities, meetings and receptions.

Every year, nearly 15,000 people frequent this "haven of hospitality" in its enchanting setting. The organization, dedicated to the development of the person, can count on some one hundred regular volunteers.

To meet the needs of persons with disabilities or decreasing independence, the organization intends to improve access to its rooms by installing a stair lift. Other renovations are also planned, including re-roofing, replacing windows and re-roofing, adding storage space and upgrading the water intake and sewers.
Accès conditions vie Lac-Saint-Jean-Est Non-repayable contribution of $25,000 on a total investment of $50,000

Accès conditions vie Lac-Saint-Jean-Est is a non-profit organization whose mission is to defend the collective and individual rights of low-income persons receiving social assistance in the Regional County Municipality (RCM) of Saint-Jean-Est. This NPO employs three persons full time.

Accès conditions vie manages a community hall open to residents for gatherings, training and information sessions and social cultural and community events..

The project is to upgrade and expand the community hall. The work mainly consists in redesigning the offices so as to enlarge the room.
City of Desbiens Non-repayable contribution of $100,000 on a total investment of $218,872

The city of Desbiens offers its citizens a community centre which houses a community hall open to the population as a whole as well as premises used by several volunteer organizations. The community hall can accommodate 150 people and is used for special events, evenings, meetings, family celebrations and receptions (christenings, birthdays, marriages, etc.).

The project involves expanding and improving the community hall, including making it more accessible, finishing and lighting, insulating the walls, replacing the windows and redoing the kitchen and washrooms. These renovations will both enhance users' access to the building and greater comfort and safety when on the premises.
Municipality de Labrecque Non-repayable contribution of $15,557 on a total investment of $31,113

The municipality of Labrecque offers its residents a community hall adjacent to city hall. It is an open hall used primarily for special events, shows, evenings and social and family get-togethers.

The hall being an important centre of community life, the municipality has undertaken this work to preserve it and boost attendance. These renovations have improved access to the hall and made the infrastructure safer and more comfortable for users.
