PowerStream Earns United Way 'Community Campaign Spirit Award'

Successful Charity Golf Tournament Helps Utility Win Award for Third Consecutive Year

VAUGHAN, ON--(Marketwired - January 26, 2015) - As a result of successfully achieving community engagement in its 2014 United Way campaign through its annual charity golf tournament, PowerStream has earned the United Way York Region's (UWYR) "Community Campaign Spirit Award" for the third consecutive year.

Presented to PowerStream at the UWYR's 2014 campaign celebration event held last Thursday at the Bellagio Boutique Event Venue in Vaughan, the 'Community Campaign Spirit Award' recognizes companies that "go above and beyond by engaging the public community in their United Way York Region campaign." In 2014, funds generated by PowerStream's Annual Charity Golf Tournament contributed more than $110,000 towards the $209,000 total that the company donated to, and shared between, the United Way York Region and the United Way of Greater Simcoe County.

PowerStream was also nominated for the "York Region Community Spirit Award". This award is presented by UWYR "to the organization that achieved the largest contribution to United Way York Region's Community Fund."

The UWYR's annual celebration event recognizes donors, volunteers and companies that champion United Way across York Region. As a result of successful 2013 and 2014 campaigns, UWYR has achieved 53 per cent of its three-year target of raising $30 million.

QUOTES

"We are proud to support the communities we serve through the United Way and honoured to receive this award for the third consecutive year," said Maurizio Bevilacqua, PowerStream Board Chair and Mayor of the City of Vaughan. "Working with these two outstanding organizations, the United Way York Region and the United Way of Greater Simcoe County, has helped us to have very successful employee campaigns that in turn provide support and assist others in York Region and Simcoe County who are less fortunate."
