Two Bas-Saint-Laurent Organizations Receive Funding From the Government of Canada

RIMOUSKI, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Feb. 10, 2015) - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced that two organizations in the region-the Marine Biotechnology Research Centre (MBRC) and Interdisciplinary Center for the Development of Ocean Mapping (CIDCO)-have been granted financial assistance.

This funding has been awarded in the form of $2,729,160 in non-repayable contributions through CED's Quebec Economic Development Program.

• One of the contributions to the MBRC will enable the organization to pursue its business innovation and technology transfer activities for a 36-month period; the other will serve for the acquisition of leading-edge equipment to help the centre optimize and expand the research and development and technology transfer services it offers enterprises.

Two Bas-Saint-Laurent organizations receive funding from the Government of Canada

The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced that two organizations in the region-the Marine Biotechnology Research Centre (MBRC) and Interdisciplinary Center for the Development of Ocean Mapping (CIDCO)-have been granted financial assistance.

Promoter	Contribution - Investment - Project description
Marine Biotechnology Research Centre - MBRC	Non-repayable contribution of $2,100,000 on a total investment of $10,482,889 MBRC supports the growth of the marine biotechnology industry through scientific research and development and industrial transfer activities, notably for the life sciences sector (nutraceutical, cosmeceutical and pharmaceutical). Businesses are able to rely on the centre for, among other things, the validation and optimization of products or processes, the conducting of technological feasibility studies or the screening and characterization of active substances. Along with these activities and those related to precompetitive research, MBRC also does its own research and development of marine biotechnology products and industrial processes to transfer to private enterprise. This funding has been granted to support the centre's operating costs for a 36-month period (July 1, 2014, to June 30, 2017).
	Non-repayable contribution of $416,000 on a total investment of $520,000 This project will enable MBRC to acquire leading-edge equipment in order to optimize and expand the research and development and technology transfer services available to enterprises. Innovative businesses will therefore soon have access to, among other things, a new twin rotor mill, expeller, drum dryer, HPLC* acquisition system and infrared scanner. high-performance liquid chromatography
Interdisciplinary Center for the Development of Ocean Mapping - CIDCO	Non-repayable contribution of $213,160 on a total investment of $266,450 CIDCO addresses the needs of businesses and private, public and parapublic organizations for innovation, training, research, technology transfer and consulting services in ocean mapping and marine geomatics. The centre carries out mandates on its own and in partnership with enterprises and regional and international organizations. It also engages in applied research with SMEs to find innovative solutions to such challenges as the inspection of underwater structures. The non-repayable contribution will serve for the acquisition of state-of-the-art equipment to help the organization strengthen its applied research capabilities and improve the innovation potential of businesses through technology and knowledge transfer. Users of the centre will thus soon have access to new surface and underwater positioning devices, an underwater vehicle armed with measuring instruments, components for the development of new hydrographic devices and information technology equipment.
