Oklahoma City Selects Vision Internet to Develop New Website

New Site Will Be Interactive, Easy to Use and Mobile Ready

SANTA MONICA, CA--(Marketwired - Feb 19, 2015) - After an extensive competitive bidding process, Oklahoma City has selected Vision Internet to transform its decade-old municipal website into a user-friendly portal with easy-to-find information and interactive features, the company announced today. Work on the new website already has begun and is expected to be completed later this year.

"The experience that Vision Internet brings to the table was really important in our decision," said Kristy Yager, Oklahoma City's public information and marketing director. "We liked the fact that they had experience in building municipal websites. They know what residents typically look for when they go to a local government website and what information they need to find quickly."

With more than 4,000 pages, the City's current website content will be reviewed piece by piece and reorganized in a way that streamlines navigation and meets the needs of residents. Citizen input will be part of the development process through surveys and other forms of community engagement.

Features of the revamped website will include social media integration, an "app center" and responsive design, which automatically adapts the website to fit any size screen whether it's a computer, tablet or smartphone.

"Whether it is searching for the holiday trash pickup schedule or reporting a pothole, okc.gov is our digital flagship and residents' link to City services," Yager said. "We need to make it more intuitive, functional, searchable and easier for residents to find the information they need. Vision Internet's content management system is a critical element that will keep our site current by making it easier for departments to update their own information quickly."

Oklahoma City, with 610,000 residents, now joins San Francisco and Atlanta as one of Vision Internet's largest clients. The company has developed more than 600 local government websites for cities and towns with populations that range from less than 1,000 to more than 5 million.

"The past five years have seen a dramatic shift in the way local governments use technology to serve citizens," said Ashley Fruechting, Vision Internet's director of strategic initiatives. "Websites that once functioned as giant digital filing cabinets have evolved into interactive portals that allow cities to provide a higher level of service to citizens with far fewer resources."
