Florida Players Network Honors Danny Wuerffel and Desire Street Ministries at 4th Annual Spring Spectacular Orange and Blue Debut Game Weekend

GAINESVILLE, FL--(Marketwired - Mar 17, 2015) - Florida Players Network (FPN) will honor Heisman Trophy winner and College Football Hall of Fame recipient, Danny Wuerffel at its fourth annual Spring Spectacular events during the University of Florida's Orange and Blue Debut game weekend April 10-11. 

Former UF wide receiver and Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, Chris Doering, is president of FPN and says their mission is to strengthen and support former Gator football alumni through networking and service. FPN has more than 2,500 Gator football players in its network including Emmitt Smith, Percy Harvin, Fred Taylor, Ahmad Black, Lito Sheppard, Reidel Anthony, Mike and Maurkice Pouncey, Jesse Palmer, Mike Peterson, Jelani Jenkins and Frankie Hammond, to name a few. Each year, FPN selects a charity to support and highlight at its annual Blue Carpet Extravaganza. This year the organization has selected Wuerffel's Desire Street Ministries whose mission is to revitalize impoverished neighborhoods through spiritual and community development (http://www.desirestreet.org).

FPN's Spring Spectacular events are open to the public and kick off Friday, April 10, with The Gator Greats Golf Tournament at the Mark Bostick Golf Course at the University of Florida. Breakfast will be sponsored by the Waffle House before a shotgun start at 8 a.m. A post-tournament lunch and awards ceremony will follow at noon with networking opportunities with former Gator football players. Registration is $100 per person and $50 for FPN members.

The Blue Carpet Extravaganza will start at 7 p.m., Friday, April 10, at the Champions Club at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Master of ceremonies and Gator Great, Errict Rhett will host the cocktail and dinner event that will feature Wuerffel and raise funds for Desire Street Ministries. Tickets are available for $40 in advance, $50 at the door and $25 for FPN members.

FPN will also host a tailgate party for members only and flag football game prior to kickoff at the Orange and Blue Debut game on Saturday, April 11. The tailgate is free to all FPN members.
