DALLAS, TX--(Marketwired - Mar 18, 2015) - New Parks Associates research on Canadian broadband households reveals nearly 60% have at least one connected CE, including a smart TV, Blu-ray player, gaming console, connected PVR/DVR, or streaming media device connected to the Internet. Emerging Power of IoT in Canada also found growing interest in the smart home as over 40% of Canadian broadband households are interested in a home management system offering remote monitoring and alerts.

"The security channel is the early smart home leader in the U.S. and Canada, and the introduction of value-added services is expanding the market for both services and products," said Tom Kerber, Director, Research, Home Controls & Energy, Parks Associates. "Even with low awareness of smart home solutions, 10% of Canadian broadband households are interested in getting home security services from their broadband service provider. Consumers are open to new connected concepts that allow service providers to generate new revenue and monetize their existing assets."

"Consumer demand for smart home systems and connected entertainment offerings that provide convenience, personalization, and simple design presents multiple opportunities for service providers," said John Barrett, Director, Consumer Analytics, Parks Associates. "Revenues can be generated directly through the sale of products and services but also indirectly through partnerships with other industries."

Parks Associates fielded Emerging Power of IoT in Canada, a survey of 1,500 Canadian broadband households, in the first quarter of 2015. It gauges current adoption levels, investigates usage patterns, and assesses the impact devices are having on broadband and pay-TV service providers. It also tests consumer demand for smart home offerings.
