Industry Luminary Kevin Wheeler Keynotes at SHAKER Annual Staffing Development Conference

Half Day Session Focused on Rethinking Talent Acquisition and Management for Today's Digital Age

CLEVELAND, OH--(Marketwired - Mar 18, 2015) - SHAKER, the market leader in custom simulations for pre-employment testing, today shared details of its annual staff development conference, which featured a session led by Kevin Wheeler, founder and chairman of the Future of Talent Institute. The event focused on two main objectives: to explore and consider global trends impacting talent management strategies and reflect on and identify implications for engaging, educating and evaluating candidates.

"Kevin Wheeler is one of those special individuals who is able to see big patterns emerging, name them and organize them in a manner that makes it meaningful and relevant," said SHAKER executive vice president, Joseph P. Murphy. "We wanted to pause and invite our entire staff to look into the future. The ensuing ideation and exchange will influence the evolution and innovation of our Virtual Job Tryout technology."

To prepare, Wheeler had the SHAKER team read the bestselling book, "The Second Machine Age: Work, Progress, and Prosperity in a Time of Brilliant Technologies," which considers how digital information, analytics and machine learning can improve outcomes. Authored by Erik Brynjolfsson and Andrew McAfee, the book provided a foundation for the day's discussion and reflected SHAKER's core mission of using technology and data science to help companies change the way hiring decisions are made.

SHAKER president Brian M. Stern, Ph.D., commented, "Kevin did a great job of challenging our team's thinking and perspective. Re-evaluating our fundamental positions and engaging in rich dialogue regarding how the world is changing and our role in helping that world is truly invigorating. Our work with Kevin helped us further develop a vision of how our products fit into where the talent field is heading."

Wheeler identified six disruptors that he believes are changing the global economy at a macro level and influencing decisions and practices relative to talent acquisition on a micro level. Highlighting the concept of the Augmented Individual, Wheeler's session centered on the growing body of knowledge regarding the accuracy of individual decision making when supported by digital machines.

After working with the SHAKER team, Wheeler observed, "The candidate job-fit data SHAKER produces really augments recruiters, making them better able to combine the best of predictive analytics with human judgment. It is easy to see why their clients achieve such significant improvements in quality of hire."
