PowerStream Encourages Customers to Participate in Earth Hour 2015

Energy Company Marks Eighth Year of Involvement in Annual Global Awareness Event


VAUGHAN, ON--(Marketwired - March 20, 2015) - PowerStream is once again encouraging its customers to join the utility in participating in Earth Hour from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2015.

PowerStream, which serves several communities in York Region and Simcoe County, will be participating in Earth Hour by powering down the lights at its four locations in Vaughan, Markham and Barrie, as well as reporting municipal power consumption reduction totals throughout its service territory during Earth Hour. Collus PowerStream will also be participating, powering down lights at its office in Collingwood.

PowerStream is further demonstrating its commitment to this annual climate change global awareness event by sponsoring Vaughan's 2015 Earth Hour Lantern Walk and Markham's 2015 Earth Hour Celebration.

The Vaughan Earth Hour event will be held at Vaughan City Hall, while Markham Earth Hour activities will take place at Cornell Community Centre. Both events will feature displays showcasing PowerStream's energy conservation programs.

  • During last year's Earth Hour event, PowerStream's System Control Centre reported a 4.8 percent electricity reduction across its entire service territory.
