Anita Borg Institute Reveals Top Companies for Women Technologists 2015

Anita Borg Institute (ABI), a non-profit organization focused on the advancement of women in computing, announced today the Top Companies for Women Technologists Leadership Index. In its fifth year, the Top Companies initiative is a national program designed to recognize companies where women technologists can thrive.

The Leadership Index is the definitive standard that identifies companies that are leaders in enabling and growing women in technical roles. ABI's Top Companies program uses quantitative data supplied by participating companies and a widely accepted statistical methodology to score participants on the representation of women at all levels and year-over-year trends in recruitment and promotion of women within the U.S. technical workforce of the participating companies.

For this year's Top Companies Leadership Index, the Anita Borg Institute evaluated 35 technology companies with a total technical workforce of over 435,000. BNY Mellon is the 2015 winner of ABI's Top Companies for Women Technologists with the highest cumulative score. The 2015 winner will be recognized at the 2015 Anita Borg Women of Vision Awards banquet on May 14, 2015, in Santa Clara, Calif.

For women seeking to build rewarding careers in technical roles, the Top Companies Leadership Index provides insight into companies leading the effort with real results to improve the inclusion of women. For participating companies, the Top Companies program provides feedback on their progress relative to others, larger trends and challenges around gender diversity than if only looking at their own data, and more visibility for their successes.

Key points:

• Thirteen companies on the Top Companies for Women Technologist Leadership Index, which includes the 2015 winner plus 12 businesses which all meet or exceed the participants' mean;
• Quantitative measures of women's representation within the technical workforce, at all levels, such as entry-level, mid, senior, and executive, in total, as well as the rate of recruitment and promotion. The Index also measures the trends in year-over-year changes for these metrics;
• Detailed data offers a more in-depth perspective than only high-level numbers that were released last year by a limited number of companies.

Making up about 23 percent of the technical workforce and earning about 18 percent of computer science degrees, women are underrepresented in the technical workforce, and are leaving the industry at twice the rate as men due to the inhospitable tech environment.

The Top Companies for Women Technologists Leadership Index will continue to reveal trends throughout the year, act as an empirical standard to measure the industry and its status on providing female technologists with equal opportunities in the workplace.
