Drummondville Bicentennial

DRUMMONDVILLE, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - April 14, 2015) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs, Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, and Member of Parliament (Roberval-Lac-Saint-Jean), today announced $178,900 in funding for the city of Drummondville.

Of this amount, $118,900 will be used to celebrate the 200^th anniversary of the city's founding, while $60,000 will go toward the Espace Frederick-George-Heriot project in honour of the city's founder. Minister Lebel made this announcement on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

Drummondville will use this funding, granted under the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program, to hold festivities under the theme "Les gens heureux ont une histoire" ("Happy people have a history"). This theme will showcase the vitality, hospitality, joie de vivre and pride of Drummondville's residents and business community.

• The founding of Drummondville will be commemorated from June 27 to 29, with more than 50 activities for the whole family.
• The Espace Frederick-George-Heriot project will include the addition of a nameplate identifying Drummondville's founder, a historical interpretation panel for the St. George Church site, a bust of Frederick George Heriot and a sculpture.
• The Mondial des Cultures, the Village Québécois d'Antan, the Festival de la Poutine, and the Drummondville Symphony Orchestra will work together with the Corporation des fêtes du 200^e de Drummondville to showcase the city's 200 years of history at the regional, provincial and international levels.
