Celestica Wins Award for Science Outreach From Canada's Oldest Scientific Society, RCIScience

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - April 22, 2015) - Celestica receives the inaugural William Edmond Logan Award from Canada's oldest scientific organization, the Royal Canadian Institute for Science (RCIScience). The award recognizes Celestica's outstanding contributions to the public understanding of science.

Celestica receives the Award based on its involvement and support of youth Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education in Ontario. Through its financial and volunteer support, Celestica has increased access for youth to hands-on engineering and technology programs.

Celestica's support allows at-risk youth and lower-income families in its local Community of Thorncliffe Park to attend educational STEM programs at the Ontario Science Centre free of charge. Previously, Celestica facilitators enhanced the participant experience in Robotics Workshops at the Ontario Science Centre by bringing real-world experience to this program that inspired youth to explore STEM by constructing and operating robots. In addition, Celestica sponsors Scientists in Schools and Junior Achievement.

This year, a similar award, named for RCIScience's 3^rd President, was created to recognize organizations who have achieved similar goals.

The inaugural William Edmond Logan Award will be presented at the 10^th Annual RCIScience Canadian Science Dinner, on the evening of April 23, 2015 at MaRS. This unique and exciting evening gives an opportunity to talk science with some of Canada's top researchers and science policy experts.
