ATLANTA, April 30, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In the wake of the devastating earthquake in Nepal, The Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) today donated $5,000 to the American Red Cross for disaster relief efforts.
A magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Nepal on Saturday, killing 5,582 people and wounding more than 11,000. An additional 72 people were reported dead in India, and 25 were reported dead in China. The search for survivors continues, as victims were still being pulled from the rubble as of Thursday afternoon.
"On behalf of AAHOA's membership and staff, we are all shocked by the tragedy that continues to unfold in Nepal, and we want to help in any way that we can," AAHOA President Chip Rogers said. "The Red Cross has worked tirelessly to aid the victims of this disaster, and AAHOA is proud to contribute to their efforts."
The American Red Cross depends on donations from individuals, businesses and other associations.
"We rely solely on the generosity of the American people to continue our mission," said Andi L. Swan, development officer with the American Red Cross. "Because of generous donations just like AAHOA's, we are able to provide hope and help during times of disaster."
