The Quebec Chapter of Financial Executives International Canada (FEI Canada), an all-industry professional association for senior financial executives, is pleased to announce the winners of the 2015 "Aces of Finance" competition, now in its fifth year. The names of the winners were unveiled on May 7 at Le Parquet in Centre CDP Capital in Montreal before a packed room of more than 300 guests. In a festive atmosphere, the gala evening honoured the achievements of the three winners of this prestigious competition.

Presided over this year by honorary chairman the Honorable Michael M. Fortier, PC, Vice Chairman at RBC Capital Markets and former government minister, the competition is open to all chief financial officers, vice presidents of finance and financial executives across Quebec, whether or not they are members of FEI Canada. The competition aims to recognize the professional achievements and community engagement of three outstanding financial executives.

The following three candidates were honoured:

"Financial executive of a large corporation" category

  • Mr. Jean-François Pruneau, M.Sc., CFA, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Quebecor Inc. and Quebecor Media Inc.

"Financial executive of a small or medium-sized enterprise" category

  • Mr. Marc Bouchard, CPA, CA, Senior Partner, Vice President, Finance and Administration, Lemay

"Emerging financial executive" category

  • Mr. Mathieu Hébert, CPA, CA, Director, Corporate Financial Analysis, TC Transcontinental

Following selection of the eight finalists by the competition's organizing committee, the members of an independent jury met with these candidates to determine the three winners. The winners stood out for their ability to draw on their knowledge, experience and values in making the best decisions and setting the best future directions for their organizations. The results obtained by these senior professionals attest to the importance and soundness of their work and their outstanding leadership.

As part of the "Aces of Finance" competition, the Quebec Chapter of Financial Executives International Canada also presents its Homage Award to a financial executive who has had a distinguished career, has brought distinction to the profession of finance and serves as a source of inspiration to his or her peers. This year's recipient is Mr. Robert Coallier, MBA, Chief Executive Officer of Agropur. Mr. Coallier's outstanding career has led him to work with such companies as C-MAC, Molson Coors and Dollarama. This tribute shines the spotlight on a prestigious career of someone who serves as a role model and resource for all of his colleagues and for the financial and business community across Quebec.

"For the past five years, the Aces of Finance competition has demonstrated that today's financial executives are essential strategic partners for chief executive officers," said Mr. Louis Marcotte, Chairman of the Quebec Chapter of Financial Executives International Canada. "Capable of taking on a broad range of responsibilities, they help shape the future of their organizations, and that's what our competition has been highlighting since its creation."

The Quebec Chapter of FEI Canada would like to thank all the candidates who took the time to submit their candidacy for the "Aces of Finance" competition and salutes the dynamism and vitality of the financial executive profession. The competition will be back in 2016.
